Zaragoza, 30th April 2008. SMOPYC 2008, the all-important event for the construction, public works and mining sectors, which this year was staged at international level, came to an end on 26th April after five days of intense activity at Zaragoza Exhibition Centre facilities. The show results have been outstanding, with provisional figures of visitors exceeding all expectations. It is calculated that over 100,000 visitors have chosen Zaragoza Exhibition Centre facilities as the focal point of the sector.
SMOPYC 2008, officially inaugurated by their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Asturias, has achieved excellent figures, revealing that it is the show that is chosen by the sector’s agents to promote the market. With the participation of 2,014 exhibiting firms and a total surface area of 400,000 square metres, the international venue has become an important meeting point for national and international companies that take advantage of their presence at the show to launch their cutting-edge machinery on the market.
For five days the capital of Aragon became the business and exhibition centre for the most advanced technology in construction and public works equipment. It is the ideal venue for building a dynamic, constructive space in which trade encounters take place.
A total of forty-four countries from five continents came together at Zaragoza Exhibition Centre’s facilities to participate in this international encounter. SMOPYC provides an optimum platform for launching all of the latest advances onto the market. Moreover, this new edition has marked a new record in participants and in the improvements that have been made to the facilities’ infrastructures and accesses.
Over the five-day period many interesting events and activities were staged. This 2008 edition included the First SMOPYC Stand Presentation Competition as a way of acknowledging the great effort that exhibiting firms take with regards to aspects such as design and innovation. A multidisciplinary jury valued, amongst other aspects, aesthetic elements as well as the complexity of the stand construction and its show functionality, particular attention being paid to the way in which the design of the stand as a whole fits in with the show setting.
Another important innovation is the setting up of a free shuttle service within the Exhibition Centre facilities, providing an extremely useful service to professionals visiting the show. The bus departs from the demonstration area (outside) and its route takes in the whole of the facilities with eight stops at the main points of the show
With regard to the purely commercial aspect, at the same time as the show contacts were taking place, there were also visits by trade missions, which were the protagonists of the international encounters for the five-day period. More than a hundred delegations from other countries took part in the sessions in which encounters with Spanish companies were held. The aim of this activity is to open up new markets.
There was also significant congress activity during SMOPYC with several technical sessions in which safety and innovation at the service of the construction sector were the core themes of debates.
Another outstanding event was the meeting of the FIEC (Fédération de l’Industrie Européene de la Construction) with the participation of representatives of delegations from Italy, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Bulgaria and Spain. This is the first time that this body has chosen Zaragoza Exhibition Centre to hold its general meeting.
The CECE (Committee for European Construction Equipment Diamant Building), an entity that groups together European Equipment Manufacturers also held its executive committee meeting within the framework of SMOPYC.
Both meetings without doubt confirm the worldwide recognition that this show has achieved.
MORE ABOUT SMOPYC 2008
There was a constant flow of visitors and exhibitors in the eleven show halls and extensive outdoor area. The event was backed by the support and presence of professionals from the construction and public works sector. The show facilities were divided into sector areas to encourage a greater dynamism and projection, which, in view of the results obtained, has been fully achieved.
The curtain fell on SMOPYC 2008 and preparations are already underway to make sure that the coming edition once again achieves the excellent figures that have positioned it, in its own right, as one of the great world events for the sector. At this moment in time our sights are set on 5th to 9th April 2011, which are the dates that have been chosen to stage the fifteenth edition of SMOPYC. |
