HITACHI Construction Machinery Co. is Japan's oldest excavator manufacturer. Their roots go back to 1968, when the Tilburg based Hovers Constructie became the exclusive distributor of the HITACHI construction machines in the Benelux states. In 1970 HITACHI reorganised it's functioning in Japan. Therefore the construction machine industry became a separate company called Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd.

 

On August 1. 1972. they created Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe), which took over the business in Europe from Hovers.

The name HITACHI became known for users on the old continent as Fiat-Hitachi. The Japanese HITACHI at the beginning of the 90's decided to start a manufacturing cooperation with the popular South European company Fiat, giving them some of their excavator manufacturing experience, and increasing their European market shares by creating fair priced duty free products. The plan, except the South European states, remained a plan, the Italian manufacturing traditions and quality of supply was not up to the level of the quality accustomed in Japan.

In March 2001. HITACHI announced the end of the cooperation with Fiat in the form of Fiat-Hitachi Excavators S.p.A ( 'FHE'). The selling of the HITACHI interest from FHE to CNH was finished in June 2002. After the closing of the cooperation in June 2002. HITACHI follows it's own strategy in Europe, Africa, and the Near East.

The HITACHI Amsterdam Project was started in November 2001, during this, in 2003 the logistic and accessories base was built, and they created Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe, the European HITACHI center.

Hitachi manufactures nearly 25000 excavator per year, from which 4-5000 machines are sold to European costumer from their Amsterdam center. With this they create significant shares in markets such as England, Norway and Spain. Since the 2005 beginning, in the Hungarian market approximately 80-100 machines found their new owner.

HCME offers a wide range of product, and this enabled them to emerge and create a name for them self in performance, reliability and security. At HCME more than 700 engineers work on the products, using the Japanese technology as a background.
With advancement of production and distribution on the old continent, HITACHI started to target the Central-East European region, and begun to distribute their machines there!

From November 2005 the following HITACHI products are available in Hungary:
• mini excavators (1,5-5t);
• midi loaders (5-13t);
• tracked excavators (13-46t);
• mining excavators (60-600 t);
• front loaders (2-8 m3);
• wheel excavators (13-16-18-22 t);
• dumpers.
